Guy Rose
Guy Orlando Rose was an American artist who holds a high place in California Impressionism. He was born in March 3rd, 1867 in San Gabriel, California and was the seventh child of the family. Later in his life, he became one of California’s top impressionist painters in the 19th and 20th century. Back in 1876, he was accidentally shot in the face with his brothers in a hunting trip, which transitions to him recovering in order to begin sketching with watercolors and oil paint. He then graduated from Los Angeles High School in 1884 and then moved to San Francisco where he did his art training at the California School of Design. In 1899, Guy and his wife Ethel Rose bought their own cottage in Giverny, France. A year later, he spent the winter in Algeria where he painted three known paintings. In 1913, they held an outdoor sketching school at Rhode Island, which was where he suffered from lead poisoning and had to move back to Los Angeles permanently. Guy Rose taught as the director of an art school in Pasadena and later suffered a hinder stroke which lead him to paralysis. He later died in Pasadena, California on November 17th, 1925.
The reason why Guy Rose would be a great artist to fit into our art gallery because his work of California Impressionism impressed us, and his California Impressionism paintings seem to be more evolved then other artists. His paintings are not just the landscapes of California, but the beauty of what’s behind his work. His paintings seem to be more involved with his watercolors and oil paints, which he uses to turn his art to be more realistic and powerful. Each painting shows so much detail so they would look more realistic. Also, Rose’s artwork would see his perspective of where he went to in order to create his artwork or what he’s able to paint such as his wife in most of his painting. He also wants to create his masterpieces because he wants his audience to see his full perspective of what he sees exploring Southern and Northern California. His art style became a huge effect because he had a group of artists from Paris praise him with his artwork.
Today, most of his numerous collections of paintings are now placed at the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana, California, the Los Angeles County Museum, and the Fleischer Museum in Scottsdale, Arizona. He became one of California’s premier impressionist painters of the late 19th and early 20th century and he was also a leading figure of the California regionalist movement.
His art gave his audience a perspective of what he sees while painting in his destinations he’s been traveling to. He shows bright colors in each of his artwork which shows more emotion. Also, his brushwork shows more detail of what his audience wants to see within in paintings because detail makes everything looks very realistic to a person’s eye.
